How to Show You're Open for Work on LinkedIn Without Your Boss Knowing

Did you know that you can put out a sneaky signal to recruiters that you are looking for a new job on LinkedIn without your boss or anyone else from your company knowing?

WELL YOU CAN MY FRIEND and I am here to show you how to do it!

WHY SHOULD YOU DO THIS?

By turning "open to work" on in LinkedIn you are letting recruiters know that you are looking for a new job. This is important because when recruiters are looking for people to fill job openings they often will click this option to see these people first. Another reason you want to do this is because it also alerts recruiters who have you listed as potential good fits, so they will know right away that you're open for new opportunities again.

To see this from a recruiter's respective, check out this explanation from LinkedIn.

HOW TO SHOW YOU'RE OPEN TO WORK

Follow the steps below to show that you're open to work on LinkedIn:

Step 1. On your LinkedIn profile click "open to" and select "open to work"

Step 2. Choose your preferences. Make sure to choose job titles that you would like to apply for so that you're matched up accordingly.

Step 3. Click "Choose who sees you're open" and select "recruiters only"

ARE YOU SURE ONLY RECRUITERS CAN SEE THIS?

Yes, LinkedIn takes a lot of preventative measures to ensure that no one from your company, including recruiters and human resources, sees that you are looking for a new job. You can read more about the steps they take to make sure of that here.

However, if someone does find out - don't sweat it! Use it as a negotiation tactic to get a raise or a promotion. If you're valuable your company won't want to lose you. So even if you plan on leaving, get some more money coming your way while you look!

Happy job hunting!
