The Best LinkedIn Profile Tips for Job Seekers in 2022

Tired of chasing down job leads? Wouldn't it be nice to have recruiters come to you? If you improve your LinkedIn profile it can make you more searchable, and recruiters WILL come to you.

On average I have 2-3 recruiters contact me a week about freelance jobs because my LinkedIn profile shows up in their searches. Why? Because I have consistently keep my LinkedIn profile up-to-date and I make sure I am using the words recruiters are looking for.

Here are the best tips so you can write an amazing LinkedIn profile and show up in recruiter searches as well, so you can be on your way to a new job in 2022.

TIP 1: UPDATE YOUR LINKEDIN HEADLINE

If you made a billboard about yourself, it would need to be short and to the point so people passing by could read it and get it right away, right? So what would your billboard say about you professionally? That is what should be in your LinkedIn headline. It needs to capture someone's attention right away and should include:

- your title

- hard skills

- what you do

- keywords being used for the job you want

DO NOT include your current employer unless it is noteworthy or you're in sales. All that does is eat up precious LinkedIn headline real estate where you could be selling yourself.

TIP 2: UPDATE YOUR LINKEDIN ABOUT

Your LinkedIn About should be your elevator pitch, not your life story. Make sure it's just enough to get to know you and why you'd be the perfect candidate for the job you are seeking. Make sure you continue to use those keywords you are seeing in job descriptions in here too!

DO NOT make it super long. Yes it might help you in searches, but it will be harder for recruiters scanning your profile to see what they need to see to want to reach out to you.

TIP 3: UPDATE YOUR LINKEDIN JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Updating your LinkedIn description is surprisingly easy as long as your resume is in good shape. All you need to do is copy the bullets from your resume into your experience. So easy, right? And it gives you so many more opportunities to show up in searches!

I also like to put in even more program names that I use in my description to really amp it up since a lot of recruiters seek those out in their keyword lists.

Links to noteworthy projects or presentation can go a long way too and are eye catching.

DO NOT put anything in your LinkedIn that you are not supposed to publicly disclose. Check your NDAs and stick to them!

FINAL THOUGHTS ON LINKEDIN PROFILE WRITING

No one is searching for "hard working" or "self-motivated" so save the fluff words for your interview and don't put them in your LinkedIn.

Do the research on what requirements, action verbs, and programs are being used in the job descriptions you are seeing. Be sure to use these exact words and work them organically into your LinkedIn profile -- and resume for that matter!
